One of the first places I tried was online. I discovered several great websites. I found Ruby Lane, Etsy, Wilson's, EraGem, Lang Antique & Estate, and 1st Dibs. These became my go-to resources for browsing a wide selection of vintage pieces. They offer a fantastic range, but it can be overwhelming, so I learned to filter my searches carefully.
Then, I remembered eBay! It's a classic for a reason. It requires patience and careful scrutiny of the listings, but the potential rewards are huge. I've snagged some amazing deals on eBay, but I always make sure to check the seller's reviews and ask plenty of questions before bidding.
But my biggest surprise came when I started visiting pawn shops. I had always thought of them as places to sell unwanted items, not to find treasures. But I was wrong! I've found some truly amazing pieces of vintage jewelry at pawn shops, and often at prices much lower than what I would have paid online. The exception, I've found, are cameos. Cameo pins, pendants, and rings tend to be priced a little high because they don’t account for the value of the metal.
I also started hitting up flea markets, yard sales, and thrift stores. This is where the real "treasure hunt" aspect comes into play. It takes a lot of looking and a good dose of luck, but the thrill of finding a unique piece at a bargain price is unbeatable. I've learned to arrive early, be patient, and don't be afraid to haggle!
Consignment stores are another great option. These stores often have a curated selection of vintage and pre-owned items, and you can sometimes find real gems that have been overlooked elsewhere.
